The 2016 CMT Music Awards were one heck of a party in downtown Nashville. Country's biggest names came to play along with athletes, artists from other genres and even Doug the Pug!

It was a night to remember.

The awards show included less than 10 actual award categories (all voted by the fans), but it was the performances that were front and center. Carrie Underwood was backed by an incredible gospel choir (her husband looked so proud), Elle King played the banjo next to Dierks Bentley, and Florida Georgia Line slowed things down for "H.O.L.Y." Did we mention Thomas Rhett rocked "T-Shirt" out in the streets?

Things did get serious for a few moments, though, like when Martina McBride took a few minutes to debut a powerful music video and Bentley raised his glass to Merle Haggard with a beautiful tribute.

It was quite the show, hosted by sports journalist Erin Andrews and football star J.J. Watt.  The night was jam packed but if you missed it, don't worry! We have some of the biggest photo highlights from the 2016 CMT Music Awards in our gallery above!
