Country-rocker Jason Aldean dusted off his boots and put on his cowboy hat early Friday morning (July 31) to get to the Today Show stage and give fans a good start to the weekend. The star performed live in New York City at the Today Show Plaza, including in his set hits “Tonight Looks Good on You,” “Burnin’ It Down,” and “My Kinda Party."

Aldean’s laid-back style is perfect for the show’s summer concert series — he kept the energy up and the atmosphere fun. His most recent album, Old Boots, New Dirt, was just certified plaitnum, making his sixth record to do so. The singer spoke to the crowd briefly, sharing his feelings about the recognition.

"It's very exciting, especially in this day and age in music," he explains. "It's getting harder and harder to sell albums anymore. So I think anytime that happens and you have a gold album, or a platinum album or a No. 1 single — any of that stuff — it's still as exciting now as it ever was. That's one thing that never gets old for me."

Aldean is back in the studio working on his seventh studio album, while earning his 16th No. 1 hit with his sexy tune “Tonight Looks Good on You.” No word yet on what the new music will sound like, but the artist has been testing the waters a bit lately, incorporating some new sounds into his style, particularly with “Burnin’ It Down.”

The country music superstar recently married girlfriend Brittany Kerr, who he has said is a much-needed grounding presence in his life. He continues on his Burn It Down Tour through October.
