The year began with so much promise as dating duo Steel Magnolia released their self-titled debut album. While fans fell in love with their unique vocal mix and non-traditional melodic lines, country radio remained hesitant, and Steel Magnolia struggled to get the foot hold they were hoping for. By year's end, their record contract was in jeopardy, and soon after, rumors began to spread that they'd split up.

They will win if: At this point, Steel Magnolia is essentially an unsigned artist, and it's very difficult to win major awards without the backing of a record label. Meghan Linsey and Joshua Scott Jones would have more luck if the award were fan-voted.
