American Idol resident rocker Cade Foehner is as far from country than anyone left on the much-loved singing reality show, but that didn’t stop Carrie Underwood from being thoroughly impressed by him.

"He kind of has this vibe ... " said Underwood, who served as a mentor on the Sunday night (May 13) episode.

His 'vibe' was on full display during a fiery performance of Underwood’s 2010 hit "Undo It." Taking the country hit to all new heights courtesy of his ever-present electric guitar, Foehner impressed judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.

Carrie May Be the Same, But Country Music Has Changed!

Yet, all of the judges questioned if it might be time for Foehner to show a bit of a softer side of his gritty and gravelly voice. And he might just do it, if he gets the chance. "I’m ready to fight my tail off for this thing," Foehner said before the first of his two performances of the night.

His second performance, a heartfelt "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, was unfortunately not enough to get him through to next week, and Foehner was forced to say goodbye.

Despite that, it was certainly a treat to see Underwood back on the American Idol stage, a stage where fans fell in love watching her became a superstar. “Being back as part of Idol is very surreal,” Underwood said at the beginning of the live show. “In some ways I can feel their nerves. I hope they can look at me and see what’s possible.”

Underwood is quite the superstar to look up to. Just this week, the Oklahoma native found herself on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, celebrating her tenth anniversary as a member.
