‘Travelin’ Soldier’ was the Dixie Chicks‘ active single when Natalie Maines started a storm of controversy by criticizing President Bush. It reached No. 1, but was soon banned — along with nearly every other hit from the superstar trio. One can’t help but wonder how this song would be appreciated had she not made those controversial comments back in 2003. Politics aside, it’s a brilliant performance of a beautiful lyric. The group has yet to chart another hit.
