Banned Country Songs
The modern day country music fan is quite a bit more tolerant of edgy or controversial songs than fans were 30 or 40 years ago, and as a result, there are fewer banned country songs today. Blame it on looser morals — or blame it on a wider variety of options — should a song that agitates come on the radio. This doesn’t mean new artists like Rascal Flatts, Garth Brooks and Carrie Underwood have escaped outright bans, however.
Many of the songs found on this list of banned country songs were blacklisted due to video content, or for reasons totally unrelated to the message or lyric. In addition to new artists, you’ll find classic country hits that still became chart-toppers despite radio bans. It seems there is no better publicity move than to be banned from being heard.
