Barbara Mandrell scored her fourth No. 1 country single in 1981 with 'I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool' -- often referred to as her signature song. No. 32 on our Top 100 Country Songs countdown helped the singer earn her second-consecutive CMA Entertainer of the Year trophy that the same year, a first for a female country vocalist.

This song was the first release from Mandrell's album 'Barbara Mandrell Live,' although the track was recorded in the studio with audience applause digitally added. Country legend George Jones was a featured vocalist on the song, but wasn't officially credited. Mandrell was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009.
