Anyone who watches The Voice knows Blake Shelton and fellow celebrity coach Adam Levine have a complicated relationship. They love to provoke one another and make fun of each other on the show — usually all in good fun. But Ellen DeGeneres decided to fuel the fire a little with a spoof in which Shelton takes it to the next level: matching haircuts.

Levine unveiled his newly-cropped cut during The Voice Battle Rounds last week, and DeGeneres took the opportunity to exploit it with a hilarious segment on her show. The host was laughing even before the clip aired, calling the guys’ relationship a “bromance” and explaining in light of Levine’s new look, Shelton would not be outdone. Then, she rolled the clip.

Through the magic of CGI, DeGeneres was able to transform Shelton’s usually thick, flowing locks into a balding disaster. Not just a shaved head like Levine’s, but a real-life, fatal hair-loss situation. Shelton sits in his chair while his team members Tyler Dickerson and Zach Seabaugh battled it out, smiling and enjoying the show, seemingly unknowingly sporting the new ‘do.

“Your move, Gwen,” DeGeneres quipped. Check out the full clip above.

Shelton has been a coach on The Voice since its inception, and it’s now in its ninth season. Next summer, he'll headline the 2016 Country Jam Festival in Grand Junction, Colo.
