Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani had a big night on Tuesday (Oct. 18). Not only were they invited to President Obama's last White House State Dinner, but they performed at the event together.

The couple sang their duet, "Go Ahead and Break My Heart," a song they actually wrote together early in their relationship.

In a video posted on Instagram, Stefani beams at a guitar-strumming Shelton, whose back is to the camera as they sing together on an intimate stage, both dressed in their best to appear in front of the Commander-in-Chief and First Lady. Stefani also performed individually for the crowd of 500, as another video shows. Other big names in attendance included Giorgio Armani. Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi was the guest of honor, according to CNN.

“Go Ahead and Break My Heart" appears on Shelton’s most recent album If I’m Honest and paints a picture of two people who think their relationship is too good to be true. Shelton says he actually started writing the song to impress Stefani, but she’s the one that took it to the next level.

“I only started the song to impress her; to be like, ‘Hey, I’m writing a song about you.'I sent it to her, and then she wrote the other half of the song. I was like, ‘Oh, she just one upped me,'” he tells Ellen DeGeneres.

Though they were initially hesitant to release the song after only being together a short time, Shelton says they decided they simply didn’t care what people thought.

“We were at a point where it’s like, ‘Do we want to go there? What will people think?’” he says. “And then we finally just got to the point where it’s like, ‘You know what? I don’t give a s–t.’”

Shelton is currently fulfilling his role as a coach on The VoiceStefani will rejoin him in her own red chair when Season 12 of the show starts next spring.
