Blake Shelton felt like he got the prettiest girl at the pop-rock ball when he started dating songstress and fellow The Voice co-host Gwen Stefani. And he's finally getting used to the buzz around their relationship.

But Shelton, 40, hinted in a recent interview on the Today Show that he's hoping that hype subsides, even though he does understand the fascination that surrounds their relationship.

"In people's defense, I think it's so hard for people to wrap their head around why Gwen would want to be with me," Shelton tells Today. "I don't blame ‘em."

Stefani, 47 — who was also part of the interview, as well as The Voice judges Adam Levine and Alicia Keys — replied, "You’re crazy, you’re crazy" to Shelton’s aw-shucks comment.

The country superstar says he and his girlfriend have become "numb" to the publicity surrounding them, and they don’t pay as much attention to the headlines anymore. But he admits he's still amused when he catches a story about the couple that is blatantly false.

"Any time you see a story about us, it's either that it's a fake relationship or that we're already married," Shelton says, "Or we're gonna get married, or she's on her second set of twins. Or, you know, I'm sneaking behind her back to eat meat."

He jokes, "I eat meat right in front of her face."  (Stefani is a vegan.)

Shelton is no stranger to the tabloids, as he and ex-wife Miranda Lambert shared a similar fate over their near 10-year relationship. Shelton's marriage to Lambert ended in 2015.
