CMA Music Fest 2016 has proven that country stars are just like the rest of us. They enjoy great music, drinking beer and stepping into honky tonks on lower Broadway in the middle of the day to escape the heat.

On Friday afternoon (June 10), fans who were trying to escape the scorching sun and stepped into popular Nashville venue the Stage learned this first-hand, when country superstar Blake Shelton nonchalantly strolled in.

Just as the house cover band was covering Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Fishin' in the Dark," Shelton made his unannounced appearance, then took it one step further by getting up onstage to acoustically play a variety of some of his biggest hits, including "Ol' Red," "Sangria" and "Honey Bee."

The crowd fortunate enough to catch the surprise performance was much smaller than his gig at Nissan Stadium the following night, but that didn't make the intimate event any less special for Shelton.

"I'm always jealous of people who get to play on Broadway," he told an excited audience. "This is way better for me personally."

Shelton's stadium performance on Saturday night shared many of the same songs that he featured at the smaller venue, but also extended to tracks from his new record including "She's Got a Way With Words," "Came Here to Forget" and "Doing It to Country Songs."

But whether you see Shelton at a small intimate venue, a large sold-out stadium, or anywhere in between, you can just about guarantee you're in for an outstanding show.
