Blake Shelton Plays That Funky Music, Performs With Miranda Lambert at CRS

Blake Shelton was born in 1976, and he’ll never miss an opportunity to prove that underneath his country shell, he’s just a funky white boy at heart.

On Wednesday (Feb. 27), America’s favorite ‘The Voice’ coach took to the small stage to ‘Play That Funky Music’ for guests at a ’70s-themed Warner Music Nashville event. The label’s Country Radio Seminar showcase was a packed house, and patrons enjoyed free booze and a two-song performance from every artist on the Warner roster — and then some.

It’s no secret that country music is a family affair at Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert‘s house, and everyone was in their living room on Wednesday. After singing at the top of her lungs during fellow Annie Ashley Monroe‘s set, the ‘Mama’s Broken Heart’ songstress hopped onstage to help with ‘Sure Be Cool if You Did,’ a song Shelton knew from the get-go was ideal for his wife’s supporting vocals.

And while Shelton and Lambert have performed his current single in concert together before (he’s done ‘Play That Funky Music’ live, too), it was an unexpected and welcomed surprise for her to join him onstage. Soon after, she and Monroe stepped up to provide backup sounds for Sheryl Crow.
