Did you know Brantley Gilbert listens to Kendrick Lamar? We didn’t either. But in a new ad for Apple Music, the artist shows off some of the go-to songs on his playlists, and we get a glimpse into the soundtrack of his life.

Of course, it opens with his latest single, "The Ones that Like Me," as a backdrop to his self-reflection in the middle of a field and roaming around his country town on motorcycles with his buds, but after a few bars, he peruses his library for another tune.

From “Born to Be Wild” to “Sweet Home Alabama” — and yes, even a Kendrick Lamar song, “Backseat Freestyle” — the singer provides fans with a taste of all the different sides of his personality as he narrates the scenes in his trademark gravelly voice. The ad is basically an explanation of how your musical choices can define you and represent who you are, and this clip certainly captures Gilbert. Check out the full scene above.

These Country Singers Love Their Dogs!

On top of being on tour throughout this year, Gilbert has had several exciting things going on — the first and foremost of which is expecting his first child with wife Amber. The couple revealed this summer that they are having a boy, which is good, because Gilbert says he’d have ended up in jail later on if it were a girl.

“You hear people say that have daughters, ‘Oh, I’ll go to jail,'” the singer says. “But no, I really will — I’ll go to prison. If a dude comes up my driveway that looks, talks, acts anything like me I’m going to stab him as many times as humanly possible.”

Gilbert also recently had a NASCAR race named after him thanks to his label, Big Machine, which dubbed the NASCAR Brickyard 400 the Brantley Gilbert Big Machine Brickyard 400. His single “The Ones that Like Me” is the second single from his record The Devil Don’t Sleep, which released in January.
