Brantley Gilbert says it almost took a miracle. His wife Amber is three months pregnant with the couple's first child after trying to conceive for nearly two years. "The Weekend" singer has opened up about their struggles and the emotions of becoming a father.

The baby is due November 17, the couple tells People. He recounted how she surprised him before a show in Louisville, handing him a box with three pregnancy tests, all of which were positive.

"I think I stared at it for at least two minutes without saying anything because I was literally in shock," Gilbert says. "We’d been told it was just not in the cards, and I’m staring at this answer to many, many, many prayers."

The couple started trying to conceive shortly after getting married in June 2015. He tells the magazine that he and Amber saw two fertility specialists and had several people tell him it'd be close to a miracle without IVF. Now with an ultrasound to confirm the baby is coming this year, he can't help but be emotional.

"I’m pretty good around other folks now, but when I’m by myself, if I look at one of the pictures from the doctor’s office, I lose a few tears," he says.

Earlier this year Gilbert opened up about having kids, admitting to Taste of Country that he's terrified of having a little girl. He'll be a protective father, to say the least.

"You hear people say that have daughters, 'Oh, I’ll go to jail,'" the singer says. "But no, I really will — I’ll go to prison. If a dude comes up my driveway that looks, talks, acts anything like me I’m going to stab him as many times as humanly possible."

Gilbert has been candid about his past, admitting to drug and alcohol use and general unchecked rowdiness. Last December he celebrated five years without alcohol or opiates.
