Singer-songwriter Brian Davis has released his new album Stripped Down and Turned Up, and he wants to make sure Taste of Country readers know what he’s all about. During this acoustic version of a song called “Here Lately,” you get a feel for his high-energy, personal brand of country music.

“Here Lately” is a bad boy country-rocker that describes a man who has gone off the rails. It’s not clear why — this exclusive premiere only features a verse and chorus — but one suspects it could involve a girl. This is country music after all, and Davis is well versed in it.

The North Carolina native is one of Brantley Gilbert’s go-to writers — in fact, the pair will be touring the country together on the Let It Ride Tour this winter and spring. Together they wrote “Read Me My Rights” and Gilbert’s most recent No. 1 hit “One Hell of an Amen.” The latter became Davis’ first No. 1 as a songwriter, and he teared up during a late 2015 No. 1 party.

Davis recently joined Taste of Country Nights host Sam Alex and talked a little about the album, describing it as all his favorite songs he’s ever recorded, only stripped down. On the show he played “Party for Two,” a ballad he penned with Chase Rice. Stripped Down and Turned Up was released on Jan. 27, Davis’ birthday.
