Brothers Osborne Push the Envelope With ‘Stay a Little Longer’ Video [Watch]

Brothers Osborne are courting controversy with their new video for “Stay a Little Longer,” which features scenes of same-sex kissing.

The clip focuses on complicated relationships. The brothers chose five real-life couple for the video shoot, encompassing the entire range of modern relationships, including young and old, interracial and same-sex. As the video goes on, the couples are all seen kissing and snuggling, including two men, in a move that may very well draw the ire of some of country music’s more conservative fans.

“We didn’t want it to be about one person or one couple,” TJ Osborne tells Billboard. “We wanted to nail down the narrative that it’s really about something that we’ve all felt and been through.”

The brothers simply wanted to represent real life as it truly is.

“Everything Brothers Osborne has done to date has been very honest and very real — we’re not bullsh—ing, we’re not lying, we’re not making it up,” John Osborne observes. “We wanted this video to be genuine as well.”

Jay Joyce produced the single, which the brothers wrote with Shane McAnally. “There are a lot of songs that are about being in love and a lot of songs about heartbreak, and this song is about that in-between stage,” John says. “And that’s actually the hardest part of a relationship — when you don’t know.”

Director Peter Zavadil shot the video in an abandoned warehouse in Murfreesboro, Tenn., a suburb of Nashville. He wanted the clip to portray real-life couples as they deal with the ups and downs of any normal relationship.

“Sometimes you watch videos and they do exactly what you think they would, exactly what the song is saying — at that point, you don’t even really need to watch it,” TJ says. “We wanted the video to drive and hone this idea that we’re all really the same in this feeling of uncertainty.”
