Canaan Smith and his wife Christy welcomed their daughter, Virginia Rose Smith on Oct. 31 this year, and now "Love You Like That" singer is opening up about fatherhood and his new music.

"We weren't expecting her to come early," Smith told Taste of Country ahead of the CMA Awards. "Nov. 4 was the due date, so she was four days early."

Virginia is the first child for both Smith and his wife, and she is already the center of her dad's universe. "It was an incredible experience," said Smith of the birth. "You can't describe it until you're a dad. Virginia is my whole world."

Smith has also learned a lot in a flash about childrearing since welcoming his daughter, revealing that there is little to no time for relaxing.

"There's no down time," he said before creating a spur-of-the-moment jingle: "We eat, we poop, we sleep, we poop, we eat, we poop, repeat."

Luckily, that baby who takes up so much time is a cutie to make up for all her troubles. Smith notes that Virginia has her mom's dimples, and that she adorably smiles when she sleeps.

As for his new music, Smith said that he will be releasing a new EP in January of 2020. The EP will consist of four songs and will be a return to the country singer's roots, as well as a hint as to where his daughter's name came from.

"When I moved to town from Virginia, I had a real, true country music sound," said Smith. "It was based on where I came from, which was the mountains of Virginia. This new project coming out in January is very much a mountain country sound."

The singer then went on to describe several of the elements featured in the upcoming EP, such as twin fiddles and steel guitar. "It's just a really good representation back to simplistic country music," Smith said.

Smith's latest single "Pour Decisions" is available to download and stream on all music platforms.
