Carrie Underwood is one of the most highly-respected vocalists in country music, but she takes her voice to a new level in a promotional clip for her new album, Cry Pretty.

In a video she shared via Instagram, Underwood and her "Cry Pretty" co-producer, David Garcia, take fans into the studio to talk about how the new album's title track and first single came together. The footage features Underwood singing the song in a much simpler, more emotionally vulnerable performance than the record as Garcia accompanies her simply on acoustic guitar. Garcia says Underwood's vocal chops actually distract people from her other talents.

"What stood out to me most is how much of an amazing songwriter she is," he says in the clip above. "I think a lot of times, she has such an iconic voice that it overshadows."

What to Expect Now That Carrie Underwood Is Expecting

"Sometimes you just have to completely shut out your emotions and go to work, but 'Cry Pretty' was about that time that you just can't," Underwood reflects of the song, which recently peaked inside the Top 10.

The acoustic clip is a promo for a longer piece Underwood filmed for Spotify about the making of Cry Pretty, which she released on Friday (Sept. 14). It appears on Spotify's Hot Country playlist.

Underwood recently released the second single from the project, "Love Wins," and she's also dropped a colorful video for the powerful song, in which she aims to spread a message of togetherness and understanding.

"We weren't trying to speak negatively about our world, because we live in an amazing world, but I feel like we get really caught up in surface things and I feel like in this world, we're quick to get angry at each other," Underwood said recently. "I personally think that we're all different for a reason. I feel like if you just sit down and talk to somebody who's not like you and keep it calm, we can all learn from each other."
