'The Sound of Music Live!' isn't just for kids, and it isn't just for adults -- it's for the whole family, Carrie Underwood confirms.

The date for the highly anticipated live broadcast of the ‘The Sound of Music' is quickly approaching, and instead of shooing kids off to bed, the entire family should munch on some popcorn, cuddle on the couch and enjoy the three-hour production.

"It's a family event. It's something that everybody can sit down and watch together," says the 'Blown Away' hitmaker.

The show will be broadcast out of Bethpage, Long Island, and will be a musical treat for all viewers. Underwood, who is best known for her powerful and effortless vocals, stars as governess Maria von Trapp, while Stephen Moyer of HBO's 'True Blood' will play Captain von Trapp, the widowed father of seven.

A new commercial for 'The Sound of Music Live!' gives several sneak peeks into the exciting show, including a few scenes with Underwood and Moyer together, the von Trapp children and brief lines from well-loved classics 'Do-Re-Mi' and 'My Favorite Things.'

Watch 'The Sound of Music Live!' on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 8PM ET on NBC. It could very well become one of your favorite things!
