Chris Lane Shares the Story Behind ‘Fix’ [Exclusive Premiere]
The story behind Chris Lane’s “Fix” turns the typical "Story Behind a Song" story upside down. The country newcomer says his vocal performance wasn’t inspired by the song. In a way, the opposite was true.
Lane and his producer went searching for a song like "Fix" when Joey Moi heard him singing the high falsetto part of an Usher song one day. They had nothing like "Fix" on the record at that point.
“He was like ‘What was that?’” Lane remembers during this Grand Ole Opry Story Behind the Song video, seen for the first time on Taste of Country. “‘Why don’t you do stuff like that when you get in the vocal booth?’”
Lane responded that they hadn't heard a song that required him to show off his commanding falsetto quite yet, so they went hunting for one. Less than two weeks later, Moi called and said he’d found “Fix.”
“I grew up loving songs that made me want to move and dance,” the North Carolina born Lane says. “From the moment I heard the song I loved everything about it and it made me wanna dance.”
“And I’m a horrible dancer,” he adds, laughing.
“Fix” is nearing the Top 20 on country radio airplay charts, and fans that see Lane on tour with Dustin Lynch are starting to sing every word back to him. Recently he made his Grand Ole Opry debut, singing "Fix" from the famous circle for the very first time. He reflected on his Opry debut in a separate video at the Grand Old Opry YouTube page.
