Country newcomer Chris Stapleton has canceled Wednesday night's show in Lincoln, Neb. following the sad passing of his father. The 'What Are You Listening To' singer made the announcement on his Twitter page Monday afternoon (Oct. 7).

"Please accept our apologies and we will be back to make it up to you soon," a second tweet reads. Stapleton is scheduled to open shows for Miranda Lambert on Oct. 10 and 11. Those appearances have not been postponed.

Prayers and sympathy messages from the singer's fans on Facebook began pouring in Monday morning. No details about Stapleton's father, including the cause of death, had been revealed as of press time.

Before beginning a solo career, Stapleton was the lead singer of the SteelDrivers.
