Country newcomer Cole Swindell's father died unexpectedly over Labor Day weekend. The 'Chillin' It' singer shared the news on his Twitter page, including a sweet photo of the two of them from his youth.

"Lost the greatest man I've ever known today," Swindell wrote Monday night (Sept. 2), "the kind of Dad that made this world a better place. He always did everything he could to make mine better ... doesn't seem real. Hard to understand."

"Please keep my family in your prayers," he added. "Thanks for all the love, msgs, & support already."

Swindell's record label shared that the singer's dad, William Keith Swindell, was 64 years old when he passed. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the address below.

KUPL radio in Portland, Ore. shared that the death was unexpected. In a Facebook post from Monday afternoon, the station alerted fans to the cancellation of Tuesday's Bull Session performance with Swindell. This fall, the singer is slated to open up shows on Luke Bryan's Dirt Road Diaries Tour.
