Carrie Underwood Fan Undeterred by Lightning Strike, Hot Plate Burn, Seizure
Carrie Underwood, meet your most loyal fan! At Country Fest in Cadott, Wisc. over the weekend, Gage Stroening did all he could to see the Underwood -- and meet Randy Houser -- after being jolted by lightning and stepping on a red-hot hot plate. Following a brief seizure and visit to the emergency room, the Minnesota man was back at Country Fest.
The Eau Claire, Wisc. Leader-Telegram caught up with Stroening, who admits he was down, but not out, after being injured.
"It hurts to walk, but I've got pit passes to meet Randy Houser,” he told the paper. “I don't have the energy like I did when I showed up, but I'm not missing these shows.”
According to Stroening and witnesses, high winds knocked a neighboring Country Fest camper's tent into his grill, which was fired up to cook lunch. Stroening stepped on it, fell down, stood up and grabbed metal framing alongside his camper when lightning struck the camper.
"It knocked me off the stairs and I started to have a seizure," the country fan says. "I was down, but I pretty much woke up right after I was down."
A four-hour hospital stay only interrupted Stroening's fun in Cadott. He was photographed in a sling, which he was told he had to wear until he could fully use his arm. Other than that, Stroening was just told to take it easy. But he didn’t listen.
“I had to see Carrie Underwood,” he tells the newspaper. “I’m not missing these shows.”
