So what did Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks actually say about President Bush? Ten years later, you may have forgotten what caused radio DJs to throw darts at the trio’s posters, steamroll their CDs (yes, literally) and ban their music.

“Just so you know, we’re ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas,” Maines told an audience in London in March of 2003. At the time, the group were absolute superstars, but their fall was swift and painful. A decade later, there are still stations that refuse to play smash hits like ‘Wide Open Spaces.’ Through it all, the threesome remained united, releasing a Grammy Award-winning album called ‘Taking the Long Way’ in 2006.
