Craig Morgan recently canceled a few shows after undergoing surgery to repair damage in his shoulder, and now fans have the real story behind the injury.

Morgan -- who's known almost as much for his extreme sporting exploits as his music -- turned up ready for action on the second day of the 2014 Taste of Country Music Festival on Saturday (June 14), without the sling he's been sporting recently.

'Well, I'm supposed to have it on," he tells Taste of Country's Billy Dukes with a laugh.

It was initially reported that the 'Wake Up Lovin' You' singer injured his shoulder while horsing around with friends at the gym, which is true -- except in this case, the friend was MMA fighter Dan Henderson.

"I was in San Diego in between shows, had a day off. Dan Henderson's a friend of mine; he has a training camp out there," Morgan shares.

"I went to work out with him, and in the process of picking the guy up to slam him on the ground, his weight and my weight fell on my elbow, and it dislocated my shoulder and tore everything away from the bone."

Though Morgan -- who hosts an extreme outdoors show, 'All Access Outdoors,' on the Outdoor Channel --  is generally up for anything, he says mixed martial arts are just a hobby for him.

"I ain't considering doing it for a living," he states. "I just get in there and play for fun. You never know when you might have to fight," he adds with a laugh.

Along with Morgan, the second day of ToC Fest included performances from Leah Turner, Randy Houser, Jamie Lynn Spears and more, culminating in a headlining set from Brad Paisley. See exclusive pictures from the evening here.
