Dan + Shay Tribute 2016 Olympics With ‘The World’s Greatest’ Performance
Dan + Shay were on hand to help celebrate the kickoff of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. On Monday (Aug. 8), the country duo performed "The World's Greatest" on ABC's Good Morning America, which honored all of the great athletes from America.
During the country duo's performance, a GMA crowd outside showed their patriotism, holding up signs that read "Go USA" while waving the U.S. flag. Photos of American athletes competing in the 2016 Olympic Games were displayed on screen while Shay Mooney and Dan Smyers sang the hopeful ballad. Athletes from across the country — Chicago, Dallas, New York and Washington, D.C. — were also shown on camera while others held up signs cheering on those athletes competing in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Dan + Shay aren't the only country artists being featured throughout the 2016 Olympic Games. The Band Perry's last single, "Live Forever," was selected as Team USA's 2016 Olympics song. The sibling trio announced the news alongside a new video of the song that showcases several athletes from Team USA gearing up for the big event.
In April, the band was in New York and visited Today where they talked about the big news, as well as performed the song. They also revealed their excitement to attend the games — the first time they’ll be going to Olympics after years of watching it on television.
“‘Live Forever’ is really about those moments that make you feel like you’re going to live forever and that really is the spirit of the Olympics,” Kimberly Perry told co-hosts Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie. “We’re just really honored to bring that song to these guys.”
The 2016 Olympics began Aug. 5 in Rio.
