Darius Rucker to Host 2012 ACM Lifting Lives Celebrity Golf Classic
It’s great to know that wherever a ton of celebrities convene in one place for an event, there’s sure to be a philanthropic angle somewhere in the mix. This year, Darius Rucker is hosting the sixth annual ACM Lifting Lives Celebrity Golf Classic, a golf tournament that will take place Saturday (March 31) at TPC Las Vegas. The event will benefit the Diana Holcomb Emergency Relief Fund, an organization which provides relief to people in need in the music industry.
Rucker’s involvement is no coincidence, as the ‘Come Back Song’ singer is actually quite the golfer himself — and he’s contributed to ACM Lifting Lives on several occasions. In the telecast for last year’s ACM Awards, Rucker raised awareness of the cause by performing his song ‘Music From the Heart’ alongside people who had attended the ACM Lifting Lives Music Camp. Plus, the country star wrote the original song ‘Together, Anything is Possible’ to raise money for a variety of PGA philanthropies.
Gayle Holcomb, who contributed the seed money in 2006 to start the Diane Holcomb Emergency Relief Fund in honor of her mother, says she’s excited to get back into the Lifting Lives tournament after a three year break.
“I’m delighted the tournament will take place again and that Darius will host,” Holcomb says, according to a press release. “The industry has been served by the fund in so many ways we don’t publicize, helping music industry professionals when they need it most, meeting private financial urgent needs.”
Executive Director for ACM Lifting Lives Lisa Huddleson says the organization is honored to have Rucker hosting this year’s classis, adding, “His continued generosity and support of our organization has been instrumental in our growing success and his golf game is sure to challenge his fellow country artists.”
In addition to teeing up and hosting this year’s tournament, Rucker will also be performing at the star-studded concert ACM Presents: Lionel Richie and Friends — In Concert, which will take place just one day after the 2012 ACM Awards live telecast at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Rucker and Richie will join forces to perform the song ‘Stuck on You.’ The can’t-miss special will air on CBS Friday, April 13.
