Grammy-nominated producer Dave Brainard says his two attackers were both wearing formal clothes, as if they were going to a wedding. The 40-year-old says he’s having trouble understanding their behavior, but hopes someone can provide more information that leads to their identification.

During an interview with WZTV Fox 17 in Nashville, Brainard said he’s not looking for revenge. "It's just justice, and also I'm angry for what they did to Deborah," he says, referring to Deborah DeLoach, a friend who was also attacked on Sunday morning.

The female passenger is named Nikki, the TV station reports. The male was a 200-pound white man, standing 6 feet 2 inches. They were driving a gray sedan, which the Tennessean reports is a four-door Infiniti. Brainard spoke clearly during the interview, as he’s yet to have the surgery that will wire his jaw shut for six weeks. His jaw was broken in two places, and as many as nine teeth were busted. Four projects he’s working on will need to be pushed back.

Nikki is said to be 5 feet 6 inches, and in her early 30s.

The incident took place on Demonbreun in Nashville, near Music Row. Brainard was crossing the street with two women when the car struck DeLoach. “We couldn’t get out of the street because they kept hitting us,” DeLoach explains. “They both get out and start yelling – she starts yelling, he’s yelling. The woman attacked me, and the man attacked Dave.”

Brainard, producer of the Grammy-nominated 12 Stories album from Brandy Clark, was hospitalized.
