It is with great sadness that we report that the father of country singer Dierks Bentley died yesterday (June 1).

Fans were concerned when Bentley announced that he had to cancel his show, scheduled to take place after tonight's Washington Nationals baseball game in D.C., due to a serious illness in the family. He shared the news of his father's passing to his followers this afternoon (June 2), including a touching photo of what appears to be his hand clasped with his dad's. Bentley tweeted: "my dad died yesterday. it was an honor to comfort him as he left us. thank you fans for the time and understanding."

He also tweeted that he has to postpone another show, rightfully so, while he deals with this devastating loss. He posted: "With a heavy heart, we have to postpone Last Call Ball 8 on Wed. We plan to reschedule. Tix will be refunded, stay tuned for more details." The singer should take all the time he needs, as he has a lot to process in the wake of this passing.

Taste of Country extends our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Bentley and his family during this difficult time.

Below is the beautiful, black and white photo Bentley shared.
