Dolly Parton will help ring in the holiday season by starring in a Lifetime original movie, 'A Country Christmas Story.'

The Grammy Award winner is no stranger to acting in front of a camera, having appeared in titles 'Nine to Five,' 'Steel Magnolias,' 'Joyful Noise' and of course, many music videos. In her newest venture, Parton will star alongside actors Megyn Price, Brian McKnight, Mary Kay Place and newcomer Desiree Ross in the upcoming Lifetime film.

Christmas is, naturally, the perfect time for these feel-good, emotional types of movies, and 'A Country Christmas Story' is no exception.

It follows a young bi-racial Appalachian Mountain girl (played by Ross) as she defies her mother (Price) and goes against stereotypes when she takes up guitar in pursuit of her dream of becoming a country star. It already sounds like something lots of country fans will enjoy -- who doesn't like rooting for the underdog?

The young singer's journey eventually takes her to Parton's own Dollywood, where she performs onstage in a singing competition hosted by the 'Jolene' hitmaker, and this helps reunite her itinerant musician father (McKnight) with her family. It also touches on big issues, as the plot helps uncover the musical legacy of African-Americans in the world of country music.

Parton’s five-decade career is an inspiration to many, and now, it sounds like her newest film will also bring lots of heartwarming gladness to the living rooms of many viewers this holiday. The movie will premiere on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 8PM ET on Lifetime.
