Drake White didn’t change a thing between record deals, and country music is better for it. “It Feels Good” stirs blues and gospel into the Alabama singer’s natural twang. The result is a powerful testament that leaves one begging for a longer sermon.

White preaches the simple life in this first single on Dot Records. “It Feels Good” begins with a pounding kick drum that never relents. The power of the arrangement is only matched by White’s vocals.

Laying with my lady on the river bank / She looked over lazy and she gave me a wink / She said there’s no sense in working if it’s this dang hot / So dip your toes in the water, baby this is the spot,” he sings. Lyrically, the song describes a lazy day on the river. However, the production doesn’t stay true to this theme.

At the chorus he cries out: “It feels good, good, good / It feels right, right, right / It feels good, good, good / So we gonna lay back and let it ride.”

White released “The Simple Life” in 2013, while with MCA Nashville. Despite critical acclaim it failed to gain traction on the radio. Sonically he’s far left of center — his stoney tenor isn’t immediately comparable to anyone else — but "variety" doesn’t seem to be a bad word in 2015. If that proves true, this arresting cut will be a big hit.

Why Fans Will Love It: “It Feels Good” is a soulful foot-stomper that demands your attention.

Key Lyrics: “It feels good, good, good / It feels right, right, right / It feels good, good, good / So we gonna lay back and let it ride.”
