On stage at Country Lakeshake in Chicago and with thousands of fans singing along to his current single “Hooked,” Dylan Scott had one thing on his mind.

“I told my wife to call the babysitter because I want to go see a movie this week,” Scott said with a laugh during a backstage interview with Taste of Country on Sunday (June 24.) “I texted her last night about it. It’s the little things that make me happy.”

Since becoming a father to son Beckett back in December, life has changed greatly for the up-and-coming country music star.

“This year I had my first Father’s Day and it was just so special,” says Scott, whose single “Hooked” is closing in the Top 10 on the charts, and has already garnered more than 44 million streams on Spotify. “I got to be home with my wife and my son, and we just hung out. We went to dinner — and, yeah, it was fun.”

It's these moments that Scott is cherishing these days, especially since the “My Girl” singer will spend most of his summer out on the road.

“The goal is, once Beckett gets a little older — maybe one year old — he can go out on the road more with me,” Scott says. “Right now, he stays at home, and it is tough leaving him.”

But it could be worse.

“A lot of times, we are actually at home more than we are gone,” says the Louisiana native, who plans to begin gradually releasing new music starting in August. “We basically are really playing shows Thursday through Saturday or Sunday, but usually I am home four days out of the week. I’m not leaving in the morning and working through the day, and getting home at night like a regular job where I see him first thing in the morning and then see him later in the night. I get to see him throughout the day and get to spend a whole lot of time with him.”

It’s also always tough to leave his wife Blair, whom he has known since they first met in junior high before their love blossomed. Seeing her as a mom has added a whole new aspect to their relationship.

“I think its all for the better,” says Scott, who recently wrapped up being out on the road with Justin Moore. “It wasn’t bad to start with. It was great. But now having a child has just brought us that much closer. With me being gone so much, it does occupy her time a little more because instead of her sitting at home waiting for me, she’s got Beckett and she gets to be a mom. It just makes things better all around for us.

"And it’s really fun watching her be a mom. She has always been great with kids, but once you see her with your kids, it’s like, ‘Wow.’ She really is a great mom. It’s such a cool time for all of us.“
