This Hank Cochran-penned tune has been recorded a handful of times, but no version has achieved as much critical and commercial success as Eddy Arnold's 1965 country classic. This version is often credited as part of the 1960's Nashville sound, a progressive blend of popular and traditional country elements.

'Make the World Away' reached No. 1 on the country and adult contemporary charts and went into the Top 10 on the pop charts. The song most recently appeared on Martina McBride's 2005 country covers project, 'Timeless,' proving that it has a lasting influence. Is there any question why it's included on our Top 100 Country Songs list?
