You know the song, but have you ever heard five rising female country artists sing it? Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas" is a must-have on your holiday playlist, and including this #LetTheGirlsPlay cover as an alternative is well worth it.

Kalie Shorr leads and strums guitar on the most recent cover song to close a Song Suffragettes show in Nashville. Lena Stone, Maddy Newton, Lacy Cavalier and Ella Mae Bowen all join her on harmonies and additional verses. While staying true to the King's arrangement these five singers put a fragile twist on the lyric.

Newton's smokey second verse is especially effective, but Bowen's casual approach gives room for surprise when she reaches effortlessly for a few high notes. Shorr closes the song — and the show — as she so often does. For nearly three years the Song Suffragettes have held down Monday nights in Nashville!

The #LetTheGirlsPlay movement began as a means to providing support to women in country music. While there are more opportunities for women now than there were two years ago, there’s still a long way to go. Taste of Country has always been a proud supporter of the cause, featuring cover videos weekly and spotlighting a rising female start monthly. This month’s featured artist is Taylor Noelle.
