Eric Church and his wife Katherine named their nearly three-week old baby boy Boone McCoy Church. It's one of those names that sticks with you, and it just sounds like a country name with deep family roots -- and, actually, it is. It's also steeped in geographical origins, and Church is now explaining why he and his missus chose that moniker.

"Boone was a family name, and it's also the name of the city where I went to school in North Carolina," Church reveals to CMT. "And McCoy was a family name on Katherine's side. So we were trying to put family names together."

They didn't start out with Boone McCoy -- they arrived at it after they "met" their son, who is also their first child. Church says, "We played around with Boone McCoy, and McCoy Boone. But we needed to make sure we laid eyes on him to make sure he looked like a Boone McCoy. And he does."

Even though the baby is a precious newborn, Church says that he is steadily becoming in tune with his surroundings and slowly starting to be aware of them. He also described new fatherhood as  "an amazing thing."

Church and his wife have been forever changed by their role as parents, with Church proudly admitting, "It's even weird how things change from the way we felt the day before we had him, and then all of the sudden, one day later, here's this life. The way our life changed in that 24-hour period alone -- just by putting a little boy in the house -- was awesome."

The Church family has at least 18 more years of awesomeness in their home, courtesy of Boone McCoy!
