In just a couple more months, Eric Church will venture into unfamiliar territory for the first time: fatherhood. The 34-year-old singer and his wife Catherine announced the baby on the way earlier this year, and recently found out that they will be expecting a son.

"We’re excited," Church tells Taste of Country.  "I think I probably told you the last time we talked that I didn’t care if it was going to be a boy or a girl, but now that I know it’s a boy, I’m pretty excited!"

As the due date gets closer for the Church family, the anticipation and nerves waiting for their firstborn's arrival has them excited to see what the future holds. "We’re really excited just about seeing how our life changes," says the dad-to-be. "It’s already changed. I just can’t wait to see the next chapter."

"My wife is growing nicely," he continues. "I think she’s the one having the harder time with being seven months pregnant in the heat wave of summer. I’m sure it’s not the most fun thing."

Church and his wife have their fair share of names set aside for their unborn son, but plan on waiting until they meet the little guy before giving him one. "I think you need to see a child and look at them before you name them," notes Church. "So we’re going to pick our favorites and decide when we see him."

In the meantime, Church's new musical arrival -- his third studio album, 'Chief' -- will hit stores on Tuesday, July 25. The album's first single, 'Homeboy,' is in the Top 15 and climbing.
