Eric Church's life has been in the fast lane to success in recent years with hit singles 'Love Your Love the Most,' 'Hell on the Heart,' 'Smoke a Little Smoke,' and his current release, 'Homeboy.' But Church is now getting ready for a big first in his life, as his wife Catherine enters her second trimester of pregnancy with the couple's first child. While he knows the baby's coming whether he's ready or not, the modern-day outlaw singer admits the reality of fatherhood has yet to sink in.

"It's kind of a trip," Church tells Taste of Country. "Intellectually, I know it’s going to happen, but I haven’t really gotten there yet. It’s such a strange feeling and strange emotion. We’re excited about it. There’s so many new things coming. I’m just trying to digest it all. I’m sure some time over the next five-and-a-half or six months I’ll get to where I need to be [laughs]!"

The Church family is less than three weeks away from finding out the baby's gender, which the singer says will help prepare him for the journey that's yet to come.

"We’ve kind of held off on everything with the nursery and all that until we find out if it’s a boy or a girl. That way we know which direction to go with names and all that stuff," he says. "In the next three weeks, it will become more real."

Church's latest single, 'Homeboy,' is at radio now. Look for Church on the road this summer with Toby Keith on his Locked and Loaded Tour. For a complete list of tour dates where Church will be, visit his official website.
