Eric Church's 'Give Me Back My Hometown' video doesn't boast an easy-to-follow or linear narrative, but it's compelling just the same.

The emotions and scars of small town life are effectively captured and displayed. The country star, who has been showing off his rock side, factors prominently, even if in a peripheral way.

We know, it sounds contradictory. But Church appears in several scenes as he performs the song on the outskirts. He doesn't interact with the characters, but his presence is a force that is felt throughout.

There are scenes of Church singing in the sunlight and in a darker space, while the backstory of a young and bearded man attending a roadside funeral is seemingly told out of sequence. It will take a few viewings to piece together what you think is going on. When you're done, you'll still have questions. But that's what makes the 'Give Me Back My Hometown' video so compelling, since you are never quite sure what's happening.

In the clip, Church has once again ditched the baseball cap and is only wearing his aviator shades in a few scenes. The star even lets the camera pan in so closely on his face that you can pretty much see individual hairs in his beard. It's that intimate.
