#LetTheGirlsPlay Cover: Fleetwood Mac, ‘Rhiannon’ [Watch]
Jenna McDaniel, Lena Stone, Kalie Shorr, Arabella Jones and Electra Mustaine made up the LTGP lineup at the Listening Room for the regular Monday night show on Feb. 27. They re-arrange the song by moving the haunting group harmonies that close out the original up front, singing the title of the song in harmony stacks while Shorr voices the chords on acoustic guitar before taking the first verse herself.
Stone follows, and Mustaine takes the second verse before McDaniel belts out another of Stevie Nicks' signature vocal lines. Jones gets a turn in the lead vocal spotlight as well, but undoubtedly the most impressive part of this performance is the spot-on group harmonies the women sing when they blend their voices on the title of the song in the chorus.
The #LetTheGirlsPlay movement launched in Nashville a couple of years ago in response to the unique challenges women face at all levels of the country music business. The weekly Monday night shows provide a showcase for original songs before the rotating roster of Nashville's finest female singer-songwriters close with a group cover.
The exposure has been working, too. LTGP mainstay Shorr not only scored a SiriusXM hit with "Fight Like a Girl," she was also recently revealed as one of Taste of Country's 2017 RISERS. We'll be rolling out some exclusive content from Shorr soon, including an original song, cover performance and exclusive interview, and we'll be following her journey, as well as the rest of the RISERS, all throughout the year.
Look for a group LTGP cover once each week on Taste of Country, as well as monthly featured interviews and other original content. March's featured artist is Kim Paige.
