This No. 1 hit for Freddy Fender is a unique entry on the Top 100 Country Songs list, as it's the only one that's bilingual. Fender was far from the first to record it, but audiences loved the way he sang a verse in English and then in Spanish. It made 'Before the Next Teardrop Falls' much more romantic.

In addition to its country success, the song went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1975, the song took the Single of the Year trophy at the CMA Awards, and Fender was nominated for a Grammy that same year. This kick-started what would be a long country and crossover career for Fender.
