Garth Brooks made the day a little brighter for the brave kids at the Children's Hospital Colorado last Wednesday (March 18). The country icon stopped by the hospital to sign autographs, take photos, talk with patients and to aide in the opening of a new Child Life Zone.

Brooks' Teammates for Kids foundation aims to bring medical care and any spiritual healing to kids with incurable diseases and their families. This foundation was a huge help in launching the hospital's new Child Life Zone, which according to the Teammates official site is "a state-of-the-art, therapeutic play area inside a hospital where pediatric patients and their families can play, learn, laugh and relax. A sanctuary. A place to learn. A hang-out. A game center. A place to be the star of your own show. A place to connect. A place where a kid can be a kid."

With Brooks' help, it became more than a dream — it's now a reality for the patients at the hospital. “This is one of the zones that we’ve been fortunate enough to be teammates with across the nation," the star told the crowd during his visit, calling everything about it "a wonderful idea."

"I am not the reason for it, I am a teammate," the singer explained. "I am a part of it and I feel very lucky to be a part of it."

The visit occurred before the first of Brooks' nine shows at Denver's Pepsi Center. The run acts as his first shows in the area since 1996. He'll play one more Tuesday night before heading west for a series of dates in Sacramento, Calif. starting March 27.
