Garth Brooks is busier than ever these days, especially now that his comeback album is on store shelves. The country singer is bringing new songs to fans on the road each night, so he couldn’t make the 2014 American Music Awards Sunday night (Nov. 23). But that didn’t mean he couldn’t perform.

Luke Bryan took the stage for a second time during the all-genre event to introduce Brooks, who sang ‘People Loving People’ via satellite broadcast from his show in Greensboro, N.C. Bryan shared that he had the pleasure of shaking Brooks’ hand for the first time at the CMAs, and that this was another best for him, introducing the influential country legend to the AMAs audience.

“He’s the best selling solo artist in the history of country music,” Bryan said as Brooks appeared on the big screen.

The icon hollered back at Bryan — and the awards show audience — before launching into ‘People Loving People.’ Everyone clapped and sang along to the tune as Brooks worked the stage, circling it over and over again to make sure every fan could see him.

Backed by a full band, Brooks spun around, and moments before the song ended, he threw his hands down to the last beat of the drum, taking the energy all the way through. He removed his hat, appearing emotional about the rare television appearance before the camera cut away.

Earlier in the night, Bryan was presented with the 2014 American Music Awards trophy for Favorite Male Artist – Country.
