As previously reported, Garth Brooks will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame this year -- and now it's been revealed that his good friend Billy Joel will do the honors on June 16 in New York, N.Y.

Joel, fresh off of recovering from double hip replacement surgery, tells My FOX New York that his upcoming work schedule has only one date in it: "I'm gonna attend the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in June -- that's in the city. I'm gonna induct Garth Brooks," he reveals.

Joel was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 1992. The pair have been friends since Brooks covered Joel's hit 'Shameless,' his recording hitting No. 1 on Billboard's country charts.

On July 18, 2008, the country star and Joel were seen onstage together thanks to a special invitation from Joel as he played the final concerts at Shea Stadium before it was demolished. Brooks' most recent accomplishment was graduating from Oklahoma State University with a Masters Degree. He is also playing select dates at the Wynn Vegas in June and July.
