George Strait Talks One of His Favorite New Songs, ‘Goin’, Goin’, Gone’ [Exclusive]

Fresh off the release of his new record Cold Beer Conversation, the King of Country, George Strait, has taken the reins once again, impressing fans and critics alike with the new tracks. And while the album's lead-off single, "Let It Go," is working its way up the charts, each song is meaningful to the legend. This video, exclusive to Taste of Country, finds Strait opening up about one of his favorite tunes from the album, "Goin’, Goin’, Gone."

Strait says the song reminds him of something he’d like to listen to while he’s hanging out with friends in a bar at night.

“I love that song,” he explains. “It’s one of my favorite cuts on the album. I just think it’s a fun song ... if I was drinking a cold beer with some buddies, I’d want to hear that song play."

Written by Keith Gattis and Wyatt Earp, the laid-back, classically country tune is reminiscent of a saloon-style singalong, as if the whole bar will join in at any second. Complete with rowdy gang vocals, the track is an upbeat celebration of the weekend, a respite from the grind of the everyday.

Cold Beer Conversation recently hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and has sold more than 112,000 copies to date. The icon — though he has officially retired from touring — recently sold out all six Strait to Vegas shows he scheduled in 2016 and now plans to add more. Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves is set to open each show.

It’s no wonder Strait is still so relevant after a decades-long career, as he has earned more No. 1 singles than any other artist across the board and is third only to the Beatles and Elvis Presley with the most gold and platinum albums in history.
