The city of Los Angeles isn't the first major metropolis that comes to mind when you think of country music, nor is it the fifth, sixth or even 10th. Despite that perception, the Los Angeles faithful answered the call and helped George Strait sell out his Feb. 8, 2014 show at the Staples Center in downtown L.A. in less than 10 minutes. All 17,178 tickets were gobbled up in 9 minutes yesterday. (Sept. 27).

The King of Country will embark on the final leg of his Cowboy Rides Away Tour, which will see him retiring from active, large-scale touring all the while still performing live and making recorded music, in early 2014.

It's amazing to see him sell out L.A. in such quick fashion. Clearly, the Los Angeles contingent of country fans loves George Strait and wants to give him a proper sendoff.

The L.A. show was the first to go on sale for the final leg of what has been a two-year goodbye trek and victory lap. This show is slated to be the ninth concert of the second leg.

Strait continues to astound with facts and figures as he reaches a "semi-twilight" phase of his career. He notched his 60th No. 1 single earlier this year, an astounding achievement. He is selling out shows on his tour at a record-setting clip.

The numbers don't lie. George Strait is, and will remain, the King of Country.
