It is only fitting that Granger Smith's"Backroad Song" music video would include him driving through some back roads in a pickup truck, but the singer also takes shelter in a barn to belt out his major label debut.

Filmed in a barn on a farm in east Tennessee and through the rolling hills of Watertown, Tenn., the "Backroad Song" video was directed by Chris Hicky. Despite being mostly shot indoors, it's actually quite picturesque, with images of the scenery of driving down a back road shown behind Smith.

“It’s a really cool vibe, really country, and I think it tells a pretty good story for the song,” Smith explains in a behind-the-scenes video clip.

Meanwhile, Hicky said he wanted to bring the elements from the outside into the video.

“I love the mix of old technology from a barn and new technology with a video wall. The song is a lyrical story; I didn’t want to tell that story straight on,” the director says. “I wanted to tell it in an abstract kind of way, and highlight the musicality of the song and the performance, because I think artists first and foremost are performers.”

Smith will be showcasing his artistry as a performer much more in the coming months, as last week he announced his album Remington will be released on March 4.

“I’ve always thought of my albums as diaries of my life,” Granger says in a press release. “Some songs are easy and light-hearted, while others are painful and personal. During this time, we welcomed the birth of my little boy, and we lost my dad. My life was such a roller coaster during my time writing and recording Remington, and you can hear that journey in these songs.”

Granger Smith was named the No. 1 Artist to Watch in 2016 by Taste of Country.
