Two singers with mellifluous voices square off during this early week Taste of Country Showdown song battle. Both are newcomers, in a way. Granger Smith made a name for himself across Texas and the southeast before recently signing a major record deal. Mo Pitney is working on following up the success of his debut hit "Country."

Smith's "Backroad Song" is his debut on Wheelhouse Records. It's a smooth, mid-tempo, slice of life song that showcases the Dallas native's voice and sharp songwriting. This singer has already built a strong grassroots group of supporters, so his challenger will surely need to work double time to keep up.

Pitney's new song is called "Boy & a Girl Thing" and it's just as country as "Country." This time the Illinois native tells a circle of life love story, perhaps one that mirrors his own. He recently got engaged!

Listen to clips of both Smith and Pitney’s songs and vote for your favorite here. You can vote once every hour until this Showdown ends on Wednesday at 8AM ET, so come back and vote often to be sure your artist wins. The winner of this matchup will face a new challenger on Wednesday.

Some songs will be considered for a second Showdown if voter turnout is healthy in a losing effort.
