The Nashville songwriting community suffered a great loss in March 2011 as Harley Allen died after a long battle with lung cancer. The 55-year-old had penned hits for artists like Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Dierks Bentley and Josh Turner. Perhaps his best known songs are 'The Baby,' performed by Blake Shelton, and 'The Little Girl,' performed by John Michael Montgomery. Allen died at his home, with his wife, son and daughters by his side.
