Hunter Hayes will make his acting debut in a scripted show on Nickelodeon this fall.

Entertainment Tonight reports that Hayes was in Los Angeles this week to film an episode for the second season of Bella and the Bulldogs, a show which follows the adventures of former cheerleader Bella Dawson, who is recruited to be the quarterback of her high school football team, the Bulldogs.

The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist won't be making a huge stretch for his debut; he'll play himself in an episode titled "I Love You, Hunter Hayes." The episode centers around Bella being blackmailed by her teammates after she skips a team activity to attend a concert by Hayes. He is slated to appear in three or four scenes, and will also perform his current single, "21."

Hayes has been reaching out to his fans through all sorts of unique promotional avenues recently, including a new digital-only strategy by which the 23-year-old released "21" through streaming and country radio only, instead of making it available to purchase right away. Hayes plans to release a collection of tracks in that manner that will eventually appear on iTunes and other digital outlets, but he has no immediate plans for an album or to release music through physical outlets.

The digital experiment appears to be working well so far. “21″ has already logged 4.5 million streams on Spotify alone, and it was the most-added song at country radio the week of its official release in June.
