A devastating tragedy struck the Indiana State Fair in August 2011, when high winds took down the stage scaffolding just minutes before country duo Sugarland were due to take the stage, killing seven and injuring dozens.

The stage toppled on top of the waiting crowd, including the band's 'Sugar Pit,' a special VIP area at the front of the stage for especially dedicated fans.

While Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush were physically unscathed, they were "stunned and heartbroken" by the events and even canceled a state fair show that followed the next day, in order to give themselves time to grieve for their fans.

The band made statements to those injured and victims' families following the stage collapse, though even after scars heal it's unlikely that anyone -- the group included -- will ever be the same again.
